Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT)™: Considerations and everyday phrase examples or SLTs and NMT™ Therapists

£14.99

The 27-page resource is intended for use by Speech & Language Therapists/Pathologists (SLTs/SLPs) and also for NMT™ Therapists who are current affiliates of the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy®.

Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT)™ is a therapy technique that uses the melodic and rhythmic elements of intoning (singing) phrases and words to assist in language recovery for patients with aphasia (Thaut et al 2025). The MIT™ examples included in this resource are embedded with audio and have each developed out of direct clinical experience with patients with aphasia in a range of settings including Level 1 NHS rehabilitation, clinical sessions in the community, and digital sessions within an Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Programme (ICAP). In addition to everyday phrases, this resource also includes top tips and a range of musical and cultural considerations when designing MIT™ interventions. Links to language adaptations are included as well an Arabic case study example.
